Become Egg Donor and Help

Become egg donor and help childless couples

Infertility is a multifaceted problem and every facet has a separate of solutions. Doctors like Dr. Rita Bakshi of International Fertility Centre works hard to understand and identify the root cause ofinfertility in a couple struggling hard to start the family and suggest the best possible treatment for them. There are specific cases of infertility where the female is not able to enjoy motherhood due her physiological problem. Inability to produce healthy eggs will make the pregnancy impossible and there is only one way to become pregnant, taking help of egg donor. An egg donor is a woman like you who has an aptitude and willingness to help a couple that is not blessed with the ability to become parent of a healthy and cute baby.

Why should you become egg donor?

Do you have a spirit to help others? Do you feel that it is the noblest thing to help a couple in getting blessed with the ultimate joy of life? Are you willing to take a calculated risk? Do you want to be part of an overwhelming experience in the life? If all the answers are affirmative, then perhaps you are the most eligible candidate to become an egg donor. This is not an easy decision and there are very few that can do it practically. Come forward to give a helping hand to others, bring a new dawn in their life by the act of egg donation.

Who is eligible to become egg donor?

Every infertility clinic has more or less common set of criteria, with few variations here and there. Clinics like International Fertility Centre has a detailed scrutiny and checking process to ensure genuine and good quality egg donors participate in the process. Dr. Rita Bakshi monitors it extremely carefully because according to her selecting right egg donor is one of the most critical activities. Fundamental criteria are:
  1. Your age must be in the range of 21 to 40. The age limits are decided keeping legal and medical factors in mind. Lower limit ensures there are no legal problems. Upper limit of 40 is based on the fact that quality of eggs reduced as the woman crosses this age barrier.
  2. You should be overall healthy, fit and within the accepted range of BMI (Body Mass Index) i.e., ratio of height and weight.
  3. There should not be addiction to alcohol, tobacco or any form of drugs
  4. You should be psychologically balanced and fit.
  5. You should not have genetic disorder, sexually transmitted diseases, venereal diseases and HIV.
  6. Few clinics prefer that you have at least one successful pregnancy history.
  7. You do not have any abnormalities in the reproductive system and have regular periods.

How you are matched for requirement?

Doctors at IFC work closely to match the perfect donor with the intended parents. They will check your characteristics and match the height, weight, blood group, skin colour, colours of eyes and body structure with intended parents. This is required so that genetic characters of the baby resembles as much as possible. It does not matter whether you are a 'known' or 'anonymous' donor, physical features are matched.

What is the process?

Your role as an egg donor is partial in the whole process. Intended couple would approach the clinic like IFC and you are subsequently approached by the clinic to take part in the procedure. The doctors will match your menstruation cycle and that of the intended mother so that ovulation and implantation can coincide. You will be given birth control pills and injection of hormones that controls the ovulation process. As soon as the menstrual cycle of the intended mother starts, the medication will be stopped to trigger ovulation in your body. As soon as you have matured eggs in the ovaries, intended mother is given drugs to prepare the womb for pregnancy. Matured eggs are extracted from your ovaries and externally fertilized with the sperms of the intended father. Fertilized healthy embryos are later transplanted in the womb of the intended mother. However, your role completes as soon as matured eggs are extracted from your ovaries. The procedure is a process that needs few hours and not more tans one day’s hospitalization.

Who will get benefited from you?

You can be a great help for a woman that is not able to conceive because of the problem in her ovulation system. She is not able to produce eggs at all or there might be low quality eggs that can't be fertilized to convert in an embryo. Also, there are cases where the intended mother is perfectly alright, but there is a risk of typical genetic disease getting carry forward to her natural offspring. The couple has the option of adoption in such cases, but it has inherent problems of no genetic connection with the baby. You can become part of the fertilization process by providing healthy egg so that intended father's sperm can be used to implant an embryo that has a partial genetic connection with the parents. You will become the main responsible person to bring ultimate happiness in the life of a childless couple that would have never been able to enjoy parenthood without your help.

What about your identity?

Clinics like IFC have the policy of keeping your identity strictly confidential in order to avoid problems at the later stage. In some cases, intended parents would like to know the donor and want to get convinced about your personal traits, physical characteristics and behavioural patterns. It is up to you whether you want to get connected with the intended parents or just want to help them without disclosing who you are!

Understanding the risks

Egg donation is a medical procedure and inherent risks are associated with it. However, these are not so major that will cause some unusual loss or discomfort to you. Doctors will use various hormonal drugs during the process and these may create problems like nausea, vomiting, hot flushes, tenderness in breasts, mood changes and headaches, etc. Also, during the egg donation cycle, you will be given stimulation drugs to increase production of eggs. Unprotected intercourse may result in unexpected pregnancy. To make the problem severe, there can be twins, triplets or even quadruplets because stimulants result in production of multiple eggs at a time.

Legal and other aspects

Clinics like International Fertility Centre works on the legal aspect carefully. There are legal agreements and contracts between both parties, non-disclosure agreements, compensation agreements and legal possession documents are prepared to avoid any type of conflicts later. You need not worry about and go ahead with the process.
Egg donation is surely one of the noblest causes that will help a woman to enjoy motherhood. Physical problem would be more a hindrance for her and the experience of carrying and delivering a healthy baby will be possible only because of you. This is indeed an act of extreme courage, positive attitude and spirit of helping others.

Signals of Infertility

Signs and Signals of Infertility

Human reproductive system is very complex to understand and predict. It is not easy to determine whether a couple has been suffering from infertility or not. However, according to medical experts like Dr. Rita Bakshi of International Fertility Centre, a couple is said to be suffering from infertility if they are not able to conceive after six months to one year of unprotected sex.

Symptoms in women

It is not very easy to identify the problem of infertility. However, there are certain symptoms and signs that can indicate a strong presence of infertility in women. Keen observation may lead to early detection and treatment increasing the possibility of getting through.

  1. Abnormality on menstruation cycle: It is very much essential to have a regular menstruation cycle in women. Irregular periods, very heavy bleeding, abnormally extended menstruation period might result infertility. These symptoms can also be due to other serious gynaecological problems and therefore never to be taken lightly.
  2. Too much or too less weight: Again, it would be extremely to draw a conclusion of infertility in case of very obese or thin women. However, if the woman with such physical structure is not able to conceive for a  long time, there might be a correlation between the two. Too heavy or too thin women might have ovulation related issues or structural problems in the reproductive area.
  3. Abnormal physiological symptoms: In some cases, infertility is caused by hormonal imbalance. There are weird symptoms appear like growth of hair on face and body, insulin resistance, pain during intercourse, milky white discharge from breasts, etc. These symptoms may lead to infertility and have to be reported immediately to the expert Doctors.

Symptoms in Men

Unlike the case of women where the symptoms are much visible and clear, infertility symptoms in men are extremely vague and usually go unnoticed unless couple tries for pregnancy. These symptoms can be diagnosed by various pathological tests.

  1. Physical deformities: This is perhaps the most visible symptom and can get noticed fairly early. Men with physical deformity of genital structure might be infertile. However, it is not completely true because the sperm count and quality might be absolutely normal and pregnancy is possible through external fertilization.
  2. Low sperm count: Couples trying for pregnancy more than six months and not getting success are advised to go for semen test. In the case where sperm count is extremely low, infertility is diagnosed.
  3. Degraded sperm quality: In some cases, the sperm count is adequate, but the sperms are not strong enough to make the fertilization possible. Multiple sexual relations also do not result conception.

When to seek medical help?

Couples should seek expert doctor's advice if any of the above-mentioned symptoms persist and they are not able to conceive even after six months of unprotected sex. Doctors would look at all aspects of the case and then treat the patient accordingly. It is very much important that the clinic has best technical facilities and qualified and experienced doctors. Treating infertility requires great

amount of knowledge and experience. A clinic like International Fertility Centre provides one of the best treatments at New Delhi, the capital of India. Dr. Rita Bakshi has a vast experience of giving infertility treatment for more than 20 years and she leads the team of expert doctors and skilled medical personnel to treat every aspect of infertility.

What is IVF and Egg Donation

IVF and Egg Donation

There has been a tremendous development in the field of human reproduction related treatment in the last 30 odd years and regularly new research and findings are getting published in medical journals.  There are many clinics worldwide that are providing treatment for all variants of infertility. International Fertility Centre located at Delhi with latest technology to make possibility of parenthood for thousands of childless couples seeking help. Dr. Rita Bakshi leads the team with a team of experts and provides all possible solutions for infertility, including In Vitro Fertilization or IVF!

What is an IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization or IVF is a process where fertilization takes place outside the uterus, typically in the laboratory. The word ‘Vitro’ means glass and it has the historical reference to the earlier days when glass dish or test tube was used to fertilize the eggs. With a long history of more than thirty years, IVF has been a successful treatment to make pregnancy possible for those couples where natural fertilization in the uterus is not possible.

When doctors use IVF?

There are multiple types of infertility problems with different solutions. According to Dr. Rita Bakshi of IFC, the decision to go for In Vitro Fertilization is taken when

  • The female has a problem of blocked fallopian tube or damaged fallopian tube resulting inability to transfer eggs from ovaries to the uterus.
  • The sperms in male have minor problem and it is unable to fertilize in the natural manner.
  • The couple has undergone fertility treatment, but no breakthrough has been achieved.
  • There is a case of unexplained infertility. In this scenario fertilization doesn’t take place in the natural manner while there is no apparent cause.

The process

IVF is certainly not an easy job and Doctors at infertility clinics have to work hard to make it successful. It is a complicated series of critical steps.

  • As the first and the foremost step, female partner has to take specific drugs to stimulate her ovaries.  As the natural process, only one egg is produced, but these drugs result production of multiple eggs to increase the probability of successful conception. These are special hormone stimulating drugs taken orally or through injection. There may be some side-effects like nausea, abdominal pain or restlessness can be experienced, but it happens rarely.
  • As the eggs are matured that can be determined by blood tests, doctors decide to retrieve them from the uterus for fertilization. Doctors will give mild anesthesia to make the process painless. Eggs will be removed from ovaries using a fine hollow needle. Patients face little discomfort or pain in the process, but it is quite bearable.
  • Fresh semen sample from the male partner is collected and the best sperms are chosen for fertilization process. The process happens in the laboratory.  Fertilized eggs are kept in an incubator and observed for next two to five days.
  • The female partner undergoes one more round of hormonal injections or drugs to make the uterus ready for implantation of embryo. The internal lining of uterus has to be thick enough so that embryo can get attached to the wall.  Special drugs make this lining thick.
  • Doctors would implant the best embryos in the uterus to increase the probability of conception. The number of embryos largely depends on the age of intended mother. Typically females with age less than 40 would have two embryos planted while for elderly women, there will be more than two embryos since the chances of successful pregnancy becomes weaker.
  • Doctors will examine the growth of embryo for next two weeks and then a pregnancy test will be done. In case everything goes fine, it comes as positive. There are cases where abnormal termination happens automatically, or it is done forcibly due to development problems. The process has to be reiterated in case this happens.
  • The complete process of IVF takes around four to six weeks. The procedures normally do not take more than half a day’s time and do not require any hospitalization while extraction of eggs. Implantation of embryo requires at least two to three days hospitalization. Frequent visits to the clinic for monitoring and follow-up are required.

Success rate of IVF

IVF has fairly high rate of successful pregnancy. However, there are factors like age of the intended mother; overall health and fitness, history of earlier successful pregnancies or childbirth affect a lot in achieving great result. A clinic like International Fertility Centre has many such success stories in the guidance of specialists like Dr. Rita Bakshi!

IVF: Pros and Cons

There are many couples that can’t conceive through natural method. IVF brings a great chance of enjoying parenthood of ‘own’ genetic baby.  The process is relatively safe with hardly any problems. Statistics do not show any qualitative difference between babies born through IVF and normal process.

There are many chances of multiple births because more than embryos are planted. This might result in babies born premature, or with less weight. In some cases there are side-effects of hormonal drugs. There is an increases risk of ectopic pregnancy that is embryo gets implanted in the fallopian tube, instead of in the uterus.

Egg donation

Egg donation is normally combined with IVF. There are many cases where intended mothers are not capable of producing eggs or there is quality issue with eggs, then doctors suggest for egg donation. The only difference is, in this case eggs of donor are taken and fertilized with the sperm of intended father. The donor woman is either known or anonymous, depending on the choice of the intended parents. Donor woman has to go with IVF cycle for procurement of matured eggs. The role of intended mother starts after extraction of eggs.

IVF and egg donation have made revolution in the field of infertility treatment and there are thousands of childless couples are getting benefited every year. Well equipped clinics like International Fertility Centre and expert doctors like Dr. Rita Bakshi makes the process extremely safe and simple and chances of success very high!

Treating Infertility with the help of Egg Donation

Importance of egg donation in treating infertility

The most exciting and most awaited moment of our life is the birth of a child. It is indeed a great gift of god that brings moments of extreme happiness and cheer in the life of a human being. While a few lucky people get it without many efforts, there are millions of couples across the world that are not so lucky. They have to go through the hardships of long running treatment, multiple attempts of pregnancy, and extreme moments of physical and emotional pain and sometimes the result does not come at all. Infertility is a worldwide problem and a large percentage of the total cases is contributed by unexplained infertility where the root-cause is unknown. Doctors try to eliminate all the possible roadblocks, but sometimes results do not come even after extensive efforts.

There are many aspects of infertility with separate solution for every aspect. There are many cases where egg donation is the only option remains if the couple wants to get success of having a baby genetically connected to them, but partially. Clinic has to be well equipped and advanced to conduct the process properly. International Fertility Centre is one of the leading infertility clinics in India. Located at New Delhi, the capital of India, IFC has been guided by Dr. Rita Bakshi, the most dependable name in the field of Assisted Reproduction Technique. With her vast experience of more than 20 years and thousands of successful patients, she is one of the renowned infertility experts of the country.

What, Why and How of egg donation

What?

In some cases the intended mother is facing problems with ovulation and unable to produce eggs. There are also cases where the quality of eggs produced is not up to the mark. In some cases females have a problem in the fallopian tube (the tube connects the ovaries and the uterus). Therefore, eggs are unable to reach to the uterus. Egg donation is a process where some other woman either known or unknown provides her eggs for fertilization.

The condition where intended mother is unable to produce eggs for fertilization, there is only one way left for her to have a genetically connected baby,  i.e. egg donation. This option is much better as compared to other options like adoption where there is absolutely no genetic linkage. In case of egg donation, father is connected to the baby by providing his sperm for external fertilization. Couples normally choose this option to get the benefit of this partial link as well as the genetic benefits of the donor if she is known to the couple.

How?

The process of egg donation is quite complex and needs a great technical expertise, sufficiently experienced doctors and a modern and advanced clinic. International Fertility Centre completely qualifies these criteria and therefore it is one of the most preferred infertility clinics in India. The strategic location of New Delhi and Dr. Rita Bakshi and her expert team handles every situation skilfully. The first and foremost step of egg donation is matching the ovulation cycles of the intended and donor mothers. Birth control pills and hormonal injections are used for this. Intended mother needs to be given special drugs to prepare the uterus for pregnancy. As the ovulation cycles match, multiple eggs are extracted from the donor and fertilized with sperms of intended father or donor as the case is. One of the embryos is planted in the womb of intended mother and rest all embryos are preserved under extremely low temperature for subsequent attempts. In case the first attempt goes successful, then the childless couples would enjoy parenthood after successful pregnancy and childbirth.

Role of infertility clinics in egg donation

Infertility clinics play a vital role in egg donation process. On the basis of complete investigation and diagnosis, the expert doctors decide for egg donation as the last resort. The most difficult part is to prepare the intended couple, especially the female. Accepting the fact takes some time. Centres like IFC handle this situation very well because of the teamwork of doctors and counsellors. They arrange workshop, one-to-one sessions and detailed discussion regarding the inevitability and importance of egg donation with the couple and make the things easier and simpler. Dr. Rita Bakshi has a vast experience of handling such cases in the past and patients become much relaxed after having discussions with her.  Slideshows, interviews and experiences of other couples are shared to understand the process in a better manner.

Understanding the terminology

Recipient:A female that receives the fertilized embryo for pregnancy and delivering the child is called as Recipient. The female partner of the intended parents is recipient and she is not genetically connected to the baby since the egg does not belong to her. However, there is always an emotional bond with the baby because she takes the pain of carrying and delivering the baby. Females usually do not ready to become recipient unless it is suggested by the expert doctors. An extensive counselling and communication is required to make her ready for receiving donor eggs. IFC takes the help of professional counsellors, social workers and psychologists to make the willingness easier.

Donor:A female that provides the eggs for external fertilization is called as donor. A donor woman might be somebody completely unknown or she may be a close relative or friend. Intended couple may choose the option of keeping donor identity anonymous to avoid future issues. Donor woman has to be physically fit, should not have any genetic disorder, affected from sexually transmitted or venereal disease and she should be willing to provide the eggs without any pressure.

Conclusion

Treatment of infertility requires the option of egg donation in some cases and there is a great importance of this process in the solution. There are cases where this process is mandatory and the couple does not have any chance to enjoy parenthood without egg donation.  The process is certainly complicated and intricate, but with the help of expert doctors like Dr. Rita Bakshi and well equipped clinics like IFC it becomes much easy and simple!
